Today is Telugu/Kannada New Year. The word Ugadi is derived from the Sanskrit words 'Yuga' which means era and 'Adi" which means beginning. On this day we make Ugadi Pachhadi (Telugu) or Bevu Bella (Kannada) which is a special recipe containing Neem flowers, raw mango, jaggery, tamarind, chilly, and salt. The medley of tastes represents the myriad facets of life like sadness, surprise, happiness, disgust, anger, and fear and reminds us that life is a mixture of all these emotions and that we should take everything in our stride :)
